Pieria

The region on the northern slopes of Mount Olympus, birthplace of the Muses; its roses in fr. 55 stand for poetry itself — the only flower that keeps a name alive.
Reading notes
- Fragments of Books Three and Four §55 roses of Pieria
Pieria, the region north of Mount Olympus, is the birthplace of the Muses; its roses are poetry itself. The woman addressed has no share in them — she has made nothing — so death will erase her. Plutarch says the line was aimed at a wealthy woman; another notice says an uneducated one.
